Pro EMS Center for MEDICS is proud to collaborate with top teaching hospitals in Massachusetts, including Mount Auburn Hospital, as well as world-renowned emergency, critical care, and rescue organizations like Boston Med Flight and Global Rescue. Mount Auburn Hospital is a teaching hospital for the Harvard Medical School Residency Program and is our program sponsor for CoAEMSP accreditation.
Students at Center for MEDICS attend lectures given by residents in the Harvard Affliliated Emergency Management Residency program, which includes Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Mass General Hospital, Mount Auburn Hospital, Children’s Hospital Boston, and Massachusetts Ear & Eye Infirmary. These residents are often on hand at their respective hospitals when paramedic students transfer patients during clinical and field internships. The connection provides continuity and consistency in the learning experience.
More information on the residency program is online at www.HAEMR.org.
Pro EMS continues to grow its relationship with Harvard Medical School by taking an expanded role in the MEDScience program. MEDScience is designed to give high school students firsthand knowledge of working in the medical profession. Interested students can participate in an in-class curriculum that uses an organ system based approach. This curriculum rivals that of any medical training institution in terms of complexity and completeness. Once a week, students practice skills in simulation exercises. Every Friday, 24 Watertown High School students put their new-found knowledge into practice in a clinical setting at the Pro EMS Sim Center.
Pro EMS also provides CPR and ACLS training to Harvard Medical School students enrolled in emergency medicine classes.
Since September 2012, Center for MEDICS and Boston Med Flight have shared training resources and experiences. Boston Med Flight offers paramedic interns the opportunity to participate in ambulance ride-alongs, so they can experience critical care situations requiring air transport instead of ground travel. Critical care personnel from Boston Med Flight assist Center for MEDICS instructors in teaching classes such as interfacility transport, radiology, and fundamental critical care support. Boston Med Flight instructors teach these classes at the Center for MEDICS building.
